Two of the 28 independents who had filed to run for Congress this year have withdrawn, after challenges to their nominating petitions were lodged by the two major parties. One more could still be forced off the ballot.
Christopher Weber of Elmer was challenged by Peter Sheridan of the Republican State Committee and withdrew. The 34-year-old had just 109 signatures on his nomination petition, nine more than the bare minimum and fourth lowest among the 26 independents who filed three weeks ago. There are still three independents running in the 2nd District....
